We’re in the middle of a crazy time. Social Distancing; Productions Shutting Down; Schools Closing; All but essential business closing down. Which, for me, means no Location Audio for at least the next couple of weeks.
I’m going to take advantage of this down time to update my website, Production Staffing Site Profiles, resume, post a few more links to projects and reach out to folks I haven’t talked to in a while; and generally catch up on outstanding projects I’ve started but never had the time (or desire) to really finish. Stay Tuned
“Uncle Bob’s Leg” is a feature film I Wrote, Produced and Directed many years ago. It has been a bit of a challenge for me to finish for a lot of reasons. Mostly, because there is a lot of “personal stuff” attached to that project. The least of which is the death of my lead actor. But it’s time to buckle down and finish that one. Stay Tuned!
I have 12 episodes of a podcast called “Interesting People I know” that needs to be cleaned up published. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some interesting people in my life and took the time to record interviews with some of them to share with folks. I’ve been holding off because I really didn’t take the right approach when I recorded them. As a Sound Guy, I should have known better. I’ve been rather embarrassed about the quality of the recordings (a basic Cell Phone Recording App) so it has remained on the back burner until now. Seeing and hearing all the content that is being put out there and a review the original recordings, I’ve come to realize that, even with the less than perfect audio, the content is still interesting and doesn’t sound half bad… so look for that one soon. After these get put out there, I will consider the idea of recording new stuff… the correct way. Stay Tuned!
Hoping every stays Happy, Healthy and Relatively sane in these trying times… Wash your Hands and Do the things they tell you to do so we can all get back to work. Wash Your Hands! Keep doing what you’re supposed to be doing. Stay Tuned!

Here it is more than 1/2 way into the first month of 2019 and I just noticed it’s been a while since I posted here. Like many New England based Sound Mixers, I am doing my best to stay warm and fill the unbooked days with other work, while I wait for the weather to clear and the phone to start ringing. And I have faith it will start ringing.
In the meantime, I am filling my time with personal projects, gear upgrades and the occasional Post Audio gig. My first “official” gig of 2019 was a quickie podcast. Later this month, I will be working a day on Alexander Freeman’s Indomitable. Working with Alexander on this film has been a labor of love and inspiration for me. I am looking forward to another day with this inspirational Director.
In the meantime, have gear and willing to travel to the lower latitudes for work!
Happy 2019
At least once a year I try and do a “one for me” project… something I think I will enjoy; something where I can be helpful and have a little fun! It is an opportunity to “pay it forward” by mentoring some students, help a friend or just participate in a cool project using the skills and equipment I have acquired over the years. These productions are NEVER financially profitable for me, but ALWAYS personally rewarding. My first one here in New England is a Columbia University Student Film being shot on Cape Cod for 3-5 days. I look forward to drawing in the energy of younger, motivated film makers who are willing to learn and hang around the with “old guy”.
So, I’ve been in Boston since the 27th of September. Within 4 days, I was able to book a 1/2 day gig in Beverly (north of Boston) , then ended up going back to Huntsville, AL to finish up a Pilot with ITV/Leftfield Entertainment. Today, I was able to lock in two days in N. Kingston, RI. All this and I haven’t even really started my marketing campaign to let the LOCAL community know I am in town. I think my promoted listings with Production Hub and Staff Me Up have been really helpful in landing gigs. I am hopeful this is a sign of how things will be for me here in New England. One can hope. I can’t wait to see what happens when I start promoting myself locally.
With the relocation thing, I figured I should updated my resume with my new address. Phone number and email stay the same. I look forward to working with you in Boston and beyond. SDB
As of the end of September, Steve Baker Sound Guy will be home based in the Greater Boston Area. Specifically, Tewksbury. But suffice it to say, my “work local radius” is rather nebulous. As I get established in Boston, it is my hope to reacquaint myself with old business associates and make some new friends. If you need sound from an experienced guy with LOTS of Docu-Reality Experience, good gear and a laid back attitude, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Have gear will travel. I look forward starting this new adventure in Boston. Thanks to all my friends in NW Florida, Memphis and beyond for all your support. It’s not good by… just so-long until the next gig brings me back to your neighborhood!
It seems like a minute since I’ve updated my resume… I figured now would be as good a time as any. I’ve had a pretty busy summer working on Food Paradise, Unsung, Heart of the City to name a few. If you are interested in seeing a recent resume check out the update here or on my Services Page.
It’s been a while, but I finally updated my resume and uploaded it to my site. Check out the Services page for a link or click here: Steve Baker Sound Guy Resume.
What do a Princess, a Totally Blind Race Car Owner, Civil Rights Lawyer, News Anchor, Record Producer and Psychic all have in common? They are among the first 10 “Interesting People I Know” who will be featured as part of this little podcast I’m doing. Stay Tuned for the first episode to be rolled out very soon.

After the June I had, it has been nice to have a few days off… but not really. Tomorrow, July 30th, will be the first gig I’ve had since the end of June. And, while the rest was welcome, I’ve been a little concerned that people have lost my number. A quick poll around the different on-line communities I belong to, and several phone calls to other freelance friends confirm something I already knew… June has been a slow month for everyone!
So I’ve been working on some things around the house and office that have sorely needed attention. Mostly doing minor maintenance on my gear, editing my movie (Uncle Bob’s Leg) with the help of my buddy Jon Deckert and coming up with other things to keep me occupied.
While staring at the screen the other day a flash of an idea came to me… something that has been gestating for quite some time, and I think it is time to execute it. Over the years I have met a lot of interesting people in and out of this show business thing I call a Job. I made a list of interesting people I have met along the way… then I made a list of interesting people I have met in my lifetime. Frankly, it astounds me how many interesting people I know… people who wouldn’t think they are interesting, but they are. Famous people, nearly famous people, and people who are famous, but you wouldn’t know them if you passed them on the street. So what I’m going to do is start a little interview blog, right here at SteveBakerSoundGuy.com. Have little chats with them about who they are, what they do and how they got to be where they are or are not.
So, if you’re interesting, expect a call from me. If you interested, stay tuned. I’m using this post as motivation and commitment to actually do this one. Stay tuned folks…. and until the next one..
